February 10th 2007, Barack Hussein Obama stood as candidate for the White House race with John MacCain as a running-mate. After passing through the wilderness and being the talk of the town, he managed to achieve 52.9% of the votes. He took the oath of office on the Holy Bible on January 20th 2009 and became the 44th president of the United States of America:
“I, Barack Hussein Obama, do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; (…) I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will do the best of my ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States”.Then, what did Barack Obama planned to “preserve, protect and defend” the country he is now leading and representing? Let's see the campaign which permitted to the first Afro-American president to sit down at the Oval office.
First of all, when he was running for president, one of the main new reforms he talked about concerned foreign policy.
Withdrawing the American troops from Iraq is a priority. That's a matter of fact; the war against Iraq has been lasting now for more than 6 years with the Bush administration. Barack Obama wants to withdraw progressively the troops from Iraq and get the territory clear by 2010. Above all, he wants to stop the daily massacres happening over there, as much among the Iraqi civilians as among the American soldiers.
[...] Secondly, Barack Obama promises new solutions to put the economic recession currently spreading all over the world back on its feet. In order to do this, he envisaged to bring the taxes down to remedy the crisis billions of dollars should be injected in the economic market as well as 10 billions of dollars for the real estate market, to help owners not to lose their assets and to be listened and advised by a team of professional for a better management of the properties. [...]
[...] With more than 9500 billions of dollars GNP for the United States (according to a report in 2000, Encarta), we guess this reform is achievable. Along a different line, we are now to focus on the ecological problem in the USA. Knowing that North America is the most polluting country of the world and also the one which consumes more energy than every other country, it transpires that the reforms about ecology are more than essential. First and foremost, a bill is to be created about a “right to pollute” for businesses. [...]
[...] Improving the general situation of a country is not only a matter of money but it is also about attention. That is probably one of the things that have been missed and forgotten by the Bush administration. But even if Obama's program looks very ambitious and barely achievable, it is possible in the long term. And the reforms he planned to listen people more and give them some more attention are reviving the American dream everyone had forgotten. If the American dream shall rise, change has already come to America. [...]
[...] But still it remains the same barrier to this reform. Instituting a “right to pollute” is indeed going to involve new investments from the companies. And a lot of factories and businesses are already closing down all over the world as the recession gains ground. So we may wonder how businesses will receive this new law. They are already trying to keep their head above the water, how will they be reacting to such a new outlay? A good company is always willing to involve itself in ecological issues. [...]
