A Genetically Modified Organism (GMO) is a plant, or an animal whose genetic code has been altered, subtracted, or added in order to give it characteristics that it does not have naturally.
[...] But it has created many problems. The fertilisers and pesticides used in this new method of farming caused water pollution, and lowered soil fertility. They also harmed biodiversity and made farmers dependent from chemical companies. In the 80's some companies realised that new technologies could open new markets. And thanks to genetic modification scientist could repair the damage done to the environment by the Green Revolution, by reducing the need to use herbicides and pesticides. ( The first GM organism was created in 1986: the Frostban It was a strawberry, which protected itself from frost damage. [...]
[...] Different people think that natural plants could be contaminated by the pollen of modified plants. Pollen can be dispersed in large areas by wind, animals, and insects. Recent research has shown that modified genes were found in normal plants at 21 km from the genetically plant. We don't know the consequences of the impact and also the effects on other animals, which could modify flora and fauna. ( Crops are now created to produce their own pesticides The consequence will be the appearance of resistant insects and the destruction of useful insects. [...]
[...] Conclusion Depending on the region of the world, people frequently have different attitudes towards GM food. Beyond s the nutritional value, food frequently has social and historical origins, and in some cases may have ethical importance. The modification of the food and the production of food may cause a negative response among consumers, especially in absence of communication on the evaluation of risks and of the benefit. What will be the importance of GM food in the future? And, are you ready or not to eat GM food? [...]
[...] This is the first main reason of the non-safety of GMO food and, for the moment long-term consequences of GMO on the health are unknown. This is different problems which could happen because of GMO using (The process of genetic alteration can introduce dangerous toxic into foods. I take the example of one genetically modified soybean, which was the cause of serious problem in the USA. This soybean was modified in order to produce large amounts of food supplement. But it has also produced toxic substance that killed 37 people and disabled (Increased pollution in food and in water. [...]
[...] ( Culture shock After the USA, companies turned their attention on Europe. Although the first GM tomato was sold in the UK in 1996, many environmental activists were not in favour of the safety of GMO. But, GMO can also give us a lot of advantages. Transition ( Surface of GMO Between 1996 and 2003, the total surface of land cultivated with GMOs has increased by thirty. In 2002, it was 587,000 and for 2003 it was 676,000 km². Soybean crop represents 63% of total surface Maize Cotton 13% Canola 5%. [...]
