The racial relations in a country are often problematic. The United Kingdom and France are not exceptions about it, even if for a long time Great Britain was considered as a model to reconcile races in a state. That perhaps explains why this subject is very interesting. This article will make a comparison between the French and Britain press and the different ways to select the subjects. We can easily notice that press in both countries is very different. Newspapers in Great Britain are more specific to a domain; they cater to the economical field, the political one, or any other; and will talk about different things and events related to the different domains to which they are devoted to. They do not exhibit any apparent relations between the different subjects chosen by the different newspapers; whereas in France one event will be often covered by all the categories of the press.
[...] And race relations are not a taboo subject in Great Britain whereas it is in France, it's a sensitive issue and there is a difference between myth and reality about this question. The myth would want a pacific mix between the different ethnic groups whereas the reality is a natural separation between them mixed with fear and hate. We can easily notice the British objectivity and its ease to talk about this subject in the reports, and the gap between the racial myth and the reality in France in the 16th article. [...]
[...] The French elections improve this trend, the Sarkozy election did and the previous elections did before; it seems to be a custom for Great Britain to criticize France during its elections. We can also notice that in the use of French words in the Britain press like “banlieues” or “emeutes” which have negative connotations, whereas France is more afraid in the use of English terms, it's more afraid of the integration of English words in its so beautiful and noble language even if it's a decreasing trend. Different assumptions We can also notice that ideas associated with the idea of racism vary from one country to another. When in France people relate the word to the words “suburbs” and “insecurity” as we can see in a lot of articles from United Kingdom the same as in France, notably in the ninth article; in Great Britain people relates this same word to the words “religion” and “terrorism” particularly since the 11th of September 2001 and especially concerning the Muslim religion as the articles number 7 and 8 show us.
