Over the last two decades the number of non-government organizations (NGOs) has exploded, and as new challenges were being faced by nations, new issues appeared and the whole system of NGOs became more complex. This essay will focus on one of the main internal issues faced by NGOs. The main issue hampering the progress of NGOs today is management and organizational problems. This seems to be the external issue faced by NGOs these days. In fact over the last 10 years, the size of these organizations has slightly increased, thanks to growing concerns of developing nations and traumatic situations throughout the world.
[...] Media is not a real external issues, it has to be considered as a very powerful instrument and a threat. To conclude, the external issues faced by NGOs are very important, because the organizations is not responsible for those issues, however they have to take every factors (political, cultural, etc . ) into account in order to develop their strategies and activities. Moreover, they have to take into consideration the power of the media and the competition between NGOs in order to be efficient and succeed in their challenges. [...]
[...] This is tragic for those kinds of organizations because, one of their main weapons to help their beneficiaries is the image the organization has built and their communication strategy. The consequences can be both internal and external. In internal, it will affect the staff motivation and their work and in external, it will have impact on the donors, volunteers and sponsors who will probably lose their confidence in the organization. Moreover, once the image of the organization is damaged, it is very hard to regain partners and sponsors, and to recreate this trust which has been lost. [...]
[...] They all have a social goal so they cannot compete as companies do. Moreover their aim is not to be the leader in child education for example but to reach their objectives, like to build a school in one village in Ghana by the end of the year. These management issues are linked with change acceptance, leadership, motivation and image are some of the main important internal issues faced by NGOs nowadays. Moreover the number of NGOs has more than doubled in this time bound. [...]
[...] A lot of associations have lost everything they built, because of their lack of transparency regarding Personnel payment and governmental funds use. As it has been said previously, the size and the number of NGOs have increased a lot, over these last 15 years. They are now like companies. So they are harder to manage and to sustain. That is to say, to make them last for more than one mission. A lot of associations are created for one unique purpose, like sending Christmas present to orphans in Romania. [...]
[...] Governments and big organizations give also a lot of money to NGOs, and they always prefer to give to big organizations rather than small groups. This does not help small and young associations which are usually not trusted. Whereas corruption and fraud is also present in the biggest organizations. Moreover, the development of the number of NGOs which sometimes have the same goal is definitely one of the main external issues. Indeed, these two organizations could be one unique organization, bigger with more power and influence and share more resources to reach their goal and have better impact on beneficiaries. [...]
