The 29th January 2012, the former American president, Georges W. Bush, during the annual State of the Union Address, talked about what he called the "Axis of evil", to describe countries which, according to him, were dangerous because of the help that they bring to terrorism and the fact that they are seeking massive destruction weapons. In this axis, he labeled Iran, Iraq and North Korea. Based on the expression, could we say that the United States of America are considered as a force for good in the world?
First, we will see that many points could let us think that the USA is effectively acting for good causes in the whole world, but then, we will talk about the limits of this affirmation and the excess of this doctrine.
To begin, since the end of the cold war, during which the USA already had the will of representing the Goodness in the world, the situation, has not really evolved. The USA, in its foreign policy since the Second World War, has always had the objective of being a kind of "Super Cop" in the world, and to intervene in the great conflicts all over the world.
[...] We can see this negative position in the cases of Iran, North Korea or Palestine. Their position considering that their culture is the best on the earth is excessive and their intention to export it in the whole world is frequently critiqued. Moreover, all the actions of the USA are not good for the world: for example, this country is one of the biggest polluter of the planet and isn't ready to change it because the USA will not renew his commitment in the Kyoto Protocol. [...]
[...] All over the world and especially in Africa, they send many food and medicine to help the underprivileged people. These types of actions contribute to export the American cultural model. But on another hand, the USA is often accused of being excessive in his positions. The American people are men like others, and they have the same weakness, so they are not protected from abuses. That's why, for example, in Afghanistan, an American soldier recently killed 16 innocents and the USA have to face reprisals. [...]

[...] Concretely, we can see this implication in many great problems of the end of the 20th century, and of the beginning of the 21th one. From the Gulf War, to the Iraq War or from Afghanistan to Libya, the USA has decided to fight military in practically all the great conflicts of the 30 last years. During these wars, they have always fought against injustice, dictatorship and non-compliance to international rules, so for this reason, we can say that USA is a kind of force of good. Moreover, this action for good leaded by the USA is not only military. [...]
[...] To conclude, globally, the United States of America is acting for the good of the world in his policies, but often abuses of his unequalled power and does bad things like any other country. America trust too much in a made out superiority that doesn't exists and has to realize that it is a country like another, and that the interference in the policies of foreign countries has to be abandoned to avoid problems. The USA, in his will of fight against instability in the world, is sometimes just creating more instability with the polemics that he engenders. [...]
