Drug trafficking in Mexico is a very serious problem since it has economical, social and political consequences. In recent years, it has increased exponentially; violence and insecurity have reached unacceptable levels.
As previously mentioned, this problem has important implications and symptoms in three main aspects. Economically speaking, Mexico is losing foreign and national investment due to insecurity. Also, all the efforts to fight these drug traffickers are paid by taxpayers who now have to pay more to finance this "war" while other sectors such as education and health lack resources.
In the political aspect, Mexican authorities have lost credibility due to the lack of results, since every day the number of deaths and missing people increase. Another serious political implication is the pressure and support from the US that the government is under; there is a lot of conflicting interest in the table and Mexico has to defend its position. Finally, issues like corruption are hindering progress because there are individuals in government directly or indirectly supporting drug trafficking.
[...] Since this war against drug traffic started, there has been around 35,000 people killed related to this war, according to BBC news. This problem does not only affect the victims and victims' families, it affects every citizen because this war is ending with their security, jobs, and happiness all along. If this problem continues like it has until now, the only thing that can be expected is that every city of the country will become insecure and people will no longer live in peace. [...]
[...] Perhaps it should also be a secret agency with new security technology. Something like this would help the police and the army to find the criminals in no time, without an excuse of why they escaped. This is a specifically difficult thing to achieve, given that the corruption in Mexico is very advanced. Authorities even with a high salary have been proven as corrupt people; so to come up with a team free from corruption will be specifically difficult. And as well as the other options, this plan will be very expensive and with low guarantee of good results. [...]

[...] Maintaining a prohibition is only useful to increase the resources of criminals and mafia organizations dedicated to drug trafficking. Many advantages can come from investing the billions of dollars that were intended for this war and the significant resources from the tax burden put on drugs in sectors such as education, information and prevention of addiction and in improving the atmosphere in the cities by increasing recreational and cultural activities for youth, etc. Other strength of this proposal is that legalizing these exchanges would create formal jobs for millions of people, which is an enormous need in Mexico now a day. [...]
[...] As a further matter, these people are heroes because they are risking their lives to defend the citizens. These people should receive benefits as citizen, such as good medical assurance, good schooling for their children, and credit with low interest to buy a house or a car. By implementing these changes, people will have an incentive to become officers or soldiers. This will force them to do a good job in order to stay in the army or in the police department. Perhaps corruption will be reduced. [...]
