In order to meet the current needs of the consumer society, companies need to be very productive. This ever-increasing productivity is the cause of multiple discharges of pollutants. The discharge could change accosting to the sector: transport discharges 27% of waste as gas, industry 21% and agriculture 16%, for example. In the era of capitalism, companies did not care about wastes or negative side of their production. The only thing that they aimed at was the highest productivity; they did not think about the ecological aspect. Today, the latter is a veritable topic. But the energy is very important in our life: in the XVIII century coal played a key role with the launch of the Industrial Revolution; in the following century coal gave place to petroleum . The XX century was defined by natural gas and uranium used to produce nuclear energy.
[...] With this, the firm helps its country respect the treaty. Companies have a real opportunity to get involved into environmental business, they just have to make good choices for the green strategy. Air France is a French airline company, founded in 1993. It is based at Paris Charles de Gaulle airport and has Pierre-Henry Gourgeon as its director. Today, the company is responsible for: 1500 flights per day planes, and 183 cities served. In aviation greenhouse gas emissions are mainly produced by planes, but there are also liquid, gaseous and solid discharges generated by activities on the ground. [...]
[...] So, we could see that this company is really concerned with the reduction of its carbon footprint. The environment is something that everyone should pay attention to because it affects all of us. Now companies are aware of its importance. They must reduce the emission of greenhouse gases that are released into the ozone layer. The carbon footprint is half the footprint of the entire humanity, and by adopting an attitude like that of Air France, we can fight against overconsumption. [...]
[...] Nowadays, there are many ways to calculate the carbon footprint. On the internet, a lot of websites offer to calculate the footprint of either individuals or companies. Some of them also give recommendations on how to reduce it. In some countries, there is carbon compensation. First, there is optional carbon compensation. The goal is to compensate the carbon rate of a company by financing a greenhouse gas emissions reduction project in another place, which has the same volume of GHG emissions as the company. [...]
[...] To fight against CO2 emissions some treaties were signed, for instance, the Kyoto Treaty entered into force on February more than seven years after its adoption. The signatories agreed to reduce the overall emissions by of their greenhouse gas emissions over the period 2008-2012 compared to 1990 levels. The Kyoto Protocol is aimed at six different gases: methane nitrous oxide hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), perfluorocarbons (PFCs), sulphur hexafluoride (SF6) and especially the carbon dioxide (CO2). Per year, a French household emits 16.4 tons of CO2. So, we have to imagine the quantity that a company could discharge. [...]
[...] The Climate action plan is one of the best to reduce the carbon footprint. It is composed of six provisions. First, Air France supports the Kyoto Protocol and participles in initiatives for the global aviation sector in collective efforts. After Copenhagen the company that gets involved in the International Air Transport Association and has several objectives, such as improving energy efficiency by per year; stabilization of carbon emissions by 2020 and reducing CO2 emissions by 50% compared to 2005 levels by 2050.
