TOTAL, the international group known worldwide, works above all, in the energy industries and also a little bit in the chemical industry. TOTAL group was created in 2003, after several mergers but it has some origin from 1923. It is a limited company. Today TOTAL is not only a multinational company but also the "fourth largest publicly- traded integrated oil and gas company" in the world (TOTAL Corporate Social Responsibility Report 2006). Its main mission is "to meet humankind's long-term energy needs" in creating value. Its mains activities are in the oil and gas but it is also a major element in chemical industry (TOTAL Corporate Social Responsibility Report 2006). TOTAL is present in 130 countries; it produces oil and gas in 30 countries and it employees in total about 95,000 persons. Its turnover is about 153,8 billion Euro in 2007.

However the ISO norms are not exclusive at TOTAL but it is a worldwide norm chose and applied by many firms. c. “Combating climate change” Climate changes regularly are in the actuality; hence TOTAL didn't have the choice to implicate itself in this area as an energy industry leader. TOTAL regularly participates to several meeting about this subject, as to demonstrate its will and interest in this area. [...]
[...] The fourth one is to support the SMEs near the TOTAL sites. b. TOTAL stakeholders TOTAL has numerous stakeholders. They argued who “maintain sustainable, trust-based relationships with all their stakeholders”. Thus they do regularly meetings to have a constant dialogue with them what it is necessary, according them, to meet strong expectations” of their presence. According to their website, the dialogues and meetings often conclude by some agreements or new guide. According to TOTAL website the stakeholders are: 95,070 employees (included 70,098 employee shareholders) Around 570,000 individual shareholders Nearly 50,000 active suppliers More than 130 host countries and communities near TOTAL sites. [...] And the question could be: do stakeholders use and trust in all these guides? As a consumer I think these guides are a lot of it is not enough concrete. Furthermore TOTAL put in practice emergency preparedness in case of accident. That is a concrete action! ii. Improving workplace safety Actually a really good job is done for the workplace accidents. TOTAL targeted to decrease its rate of workplace of accident of 10% and finally they reduced it of 19% in one year! [...]
[...] TOTAL has a will to be a transparent and open company to dialogue with a respect for others. The values of the firm are turned towards natural resources, protecting the environment and the adaptation of the operations to the own culture of each country. TOTAL has already meet several problems of ethics due to some accidents as the sinking of the Erika ship in France or the explosion in one of their chemical manufacture in Toulouse (France).
