'We are entering a time of consequences'', said Winston Churchill after World War 2, warning about upcomong cold war coming. In his movie, 'The Inconvenient Truth', Al Gore tells about Global Warming and the hot war coming! We now know what would be its consequences on the earth. And the Earth has already had some of it, the ice melting of the poles, cold water coming in the oceans and deregulating climate, climate change leading to nature disasters (floods, droughts, storms and hurricanes). The United States is the main character in this worldwide change. Statistics are showing it that global carbon dioxide output approached 32 billions tons in 2006, with about 25% of that coming from the US, although it only represents 5% of the global population! Let's see what the administration position on this issue is.
[...] Wal-Mart also asks its 60.000 suppliers to follow their example. Their politics has a real impact on the planet evolution and it is still cost-effective! Many American firms have chosen the same attitude. However, the success of this new positioning needs to be balanced. Some companies talk the green way but don't act the same way. The American Administration does not well represent all the American population. There is an American awareness that is having a great role against global warming: let's call it the Alter America. [...] Will these 3 parts find a consensus on how to act towards global warming? Maybe the latest report of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) will decide them all. This report announces the formation of 7 to 10 hurricanes for 2007 due to the climate change to 5 of them should be high intensity hurricanes. Human losses would maybe sensitize everyone and help to find the consensus. Indicative bilbliography American Heat: Ethical Problems with the United States' Response to Global Warming par Donald A. [...] They defend their position with 3 reasons. The first is that innovation and technology must be the only way for the humanity to surmount difficulties created by its development. Thus George W. Bush has called for the US to quintuple its production of biofuels made with ethanol. But the manufacture of corn, supposed to produce ethanol, is still inefficient (the process burns up almost as much energy as it produces), while the earth is being more and more polluted. As says Al Gore: do not have time to play around with this” ; it's injurious still to be giving shots to a struggle against global climate, whereas restrictions have showed their efficiency. [...]
[...] The United States and global warming are entering a time of consequences”, said Winston Churchill after World War warning about the cold war coming. In his movie The Inconvenient Truth, Al Gore makes deliberately the parallel with Global Warming and the hot war coming! We now know what would be the consequences on the Earth. And the Earth has already tasted some of it: an important warming, the ice melting of the poles, cold water coming in the oceans and deregulating climate, climate change leading to nature disasters (floods, droughts, storms and hurricanes The United States is the main character of this worldwide change. [...] The second reason is: why imposing ourselves restrictions when China and India will just waste our effort. Chinese's per capita emission of carbon dioxide is 4.03 tons. It is 1.12 in India. But it is 21.75 in the US. So any efforts that will be making the US will have a huge positive impact on the planet. And, although it is said that China will pass the US before 2010, why would the US have to show the bad example to the rest of the world? [...]
