The United States seems to be the biggest polluter in comparison with the other countries, and more precisely with the European and Asian ones. As an example, The United States emits 50% more greenhouse gases than the European Union for each dollar of GDP. America can be considered as the environmental villain. Moreover, an American citizen consumes 20 tons of carbon dioxide per year against 8.4 for each citizen in Europe. The differences between the states are obvious. America consumes even more than any other country in the world.
[...] Is United States the Greenest Nation? Greenest Nation Comment on the title The United States seems to be the biggest polluter in comparison with the other countries, and more precisely European and Asian ones. [...] And unlike Europe, where environmental offenders often get away with a slap on the wrist, the United States has strict penalties for companies caught flouting regulations—including the threat of jail time for corporate officers and punitive class-action damages, says Andreas Kraemer, head of Ecologic, a Berlin-based green- issues think thank. It thus seems that The United States are more afraid for their environment than the other countries of the world. That is why it deserves the title of “greenest nation”, also because the American citizens also take care of their environment, as we explained it before. [...]
[...] The American citizens also take care of their environment. We can see that there is an upcoming change in America, a change which is going to spread through all the American states, at least, this is what we can suppose, regarding the evolutions of several States of America which are trying to pollute less by using the wind or solar energies. We can also take New York as an example. With a population of 19.5 million, New York City has even lower emissions (though that has a lot to do with much of its population living in one big city with close-knit public transport). [...]
[...] If every American state tries to make progress, we could soon see America as the greenest nation. We can also highlight the fact that California invented the vehicle- emissions regulations that Europe and other countries later copied. They were U.S. companies like Du Pont, which first commercialized substitutes for ozone-depleting coolants and aerosols. America invented and set up the world's first cap-and-trade program to cut the sulfur and nitrogen emissions that cause acid rain. At international conferences on the environment, America pushed while big European polluters like Germany did not want to change their mind in the name of saving jobs and profits. [...]
[...] It seems that The United States is really far from being the greenest nation. Nevertheless, if we take a look at each American state, we can see that some of them are actually polluting less than some European countries. For example, California emits 20% less CO2 per dollar of GDP than Germany. It has the world's largest solar power plant, the largest wind farm and the most powerful geothermal installation. It is obvious that some American countries have the willing of reducing greenhouse effects. [...]
