Dear Sir, Madam, Spending a year abroad is a real opportunity for me to discover another culture and another academic system. As I have always lived in Paris, I hope to spend one year in the United States, a country which seems so close to Europe due to its heritage and yet remote from the European mentality.

Tufts reputation and academic excellence would be a great asset for me as for my future carrier. Moreover, some other reasons like Tufts' nice campus and its situation, twenty minutes away from Boston, city of culture which has an intense intellectual life explain why Tufts is a place where I strongly want to go for my third year. As I have always lived in Paris, I strongly desire to go overseas and spend one year in the United States, a country which seems so close to Europe due to its heritage and yet remote from the European mentality. Above all, what I would like to discover is the academic excellence of American universities in the frame of a rewarding campus life during this year. [...]

[...] It is for these reasons that I chose to apply for two Boston's universities for my first and second choices. My second choice, Boston College is actually more of a second first choice. Although it doesn't have an urban studies department, its proximity with Boston and its famous Caroll School of Management are the two main reasons that explain my desire to go there. Its location would enable me to discover and study the Boston agglomeration and travel to other main cities of the East-Coast like New-York or Montreal. [...]
