"Some people believe football (soccer) is a matter of life and death. I'm very disappointed with that attitude. I can assure you it is much, much more important than that." - Bill Shankly
Everyone has different hobbies that they are passionate about, and find entertaining or relaxing. They can be physical activities like jogging, swimming, skateboarding or mental activities like reading or writing. Ultimately these activities depend on the particular interests of a person. Personally, soccer is my hobby because it inspires, motivates me, and its simple rules and organization has resulted in a passionate international following that is united by the sport's excitement.
Growing up in Morocco where soccer reigns as the national pastime, it is not surprising that I grew up with the soccer ball. My mom recalls me playfully kicking the ball around when I was only about two years old. Since then soccer has been my favorite sport, and it is a hobby I enjoy when I have free time.
[...] For me, it is so much fun to play with the ball. Moreover, soccer means a lot to me, and I really love it so much. Currently, even if I'm in the U.S where soccer is not very popular, I still want to participate in a soccer club. In fact, I will take my chances in the tryouts at my college's soccer team next semester. My dream was always to be a soccer player. One day, I will play for my national team and make my country proud of me. [...]
[...] In addition to playing soccer I also enjoy watching it on TV. The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), estimated that there were approximately 250 million football players and over 1.3 billion people “interested” in soccer, making it the world's most popular sport. Soccer's popularity is displayed in a grand fashion during the World Cup where many famous international teams such as Brazil, Germany, England, and my favorite team, Spain exhibit its tremendous talents. As a fervent soccer fan I never miss an opportunity to watch this international competition. [...]

[...] With its simple rules and lack of costly equipment, Soccer can be played in nearly every setting. A flat field, a ball, and two goal lines will get everyone ready for a perfect game, while other sports require special surfaces to play on, such as baseball's unique diamond, basketball's hard court. Back in my home country, it is very rare to find organized fields. Therefore my friends and I create our own soccer pitches by collecting four small stones, two for each goal post, and place them in the middle of the street where cars always disturb our games. [...]
[...] Sometimes I go to the stadium to support my city team when they have decisive games. Once, I went to the final when my team was facing the best team in the country. From the beginning to the end, the stadium was full. People showed strong emotions throughout their applause, tears, smiles, and screams. This, along with the lively sounds from musical instruments, created an enjoyable atmosphere and an environment full of passion. The people came to the game to shout and to cheer enthusiastically for their team, and because of that I know for sure that they all indulge in soccer with the same fervor as me. [...]
