A feminist is a person who fights for women to have the same rights as men. The feminist movement isn't a young one, women have been fighting for gender equality for 300 years. Besides it was a very important movement and has allowed enormous progress for women's emancipation. However, we can ask if to be a feminist is still relevant today. Indeed, in the past feminism was essential, and today some inequalities persist, even though feminists focus on less important things than before.

Nowadays Nowadays, feminism remains important and it is still relevant to be feminist today. In fact, women aren't yet the equal of men. They can have a job, but for the same job a man and a woman don't have the same salaries. On average in France, women get paid 80 percent of a man's pay. [...]

[...] So, we could think there is no need to continue the feminist movement. Besides men have inequalities too. Take the case of childcare after divorce, women almost always have it and men aren't in this situation the equal of women. In addition women and men will always stay different and can never be exactly the same as each other. For instance, women need to have pregnancy leave, so a man and a woman never have the same privileges. To finish, women today can have a career and maybe it can be an obstacle to have a family and children. [...]

[...] Therefore, in these places, feminism has a long way to go yet. On the other hand, feminism could be considered as not very relevant nowadays. Indeed, today feminism has got a bad reputation, because of women who are extremist and would like women to be considered to be better than men. And there are clichés like feminists don't like pink and don't want children. For instance, a group of feminists called ‘the Femen' make extremist actions like being topless in the streets and people can associate all feminists with them. [...]
