Before our departure to Korea, I already had a great image of the summer session. And when I lived it, it was much more exciting and interesting than expected. That's why I recommend it to all students who like Asia and who want to experience it. Interesting courses were combined with professors and students from around the world, and therefore very diverse points of view. We also discovered an Asian country, which is not always put forward, but which is very powerful in technology and culturally rich.
I choose the summer session in the Sungkyunkwan University –or SKKU– because I wanted to go in Asia in order to discover this continent that I had never visited, and in the same time having an experience in a foreign university with various professors and students from many countries. Korea was the best choice because of its technological and cultural development. I wanted to know better this country, to discover its population, its language and its culture. Moreover, an asset of a summer session is to receive 6 ECTS at the end. So that I wanted to have the best grades as possible. As I obtained good grades, I am happy. I also made more friends and visited more beautiful places than expected.
[...] The goal was to know how to turn them in opportunities. The interdisciplinary courses were very rewarding thanks to open-minded professors and students. These courses enabled us to learn more about Asia, especially Korea, but also about the countries of our classmates. The learning of Korean was interesting and useful to integrate into the country, to show our respect to Koreans and to speak more easily with them. Korea was full of surprises. So I will first present you the remarkable aspects of the university and then some of the daily life. [...]
[...] But they had broken it and didn't want her to stay. I also learned that in some countries, local languages are as huge as English. Indeed, in Finland, the Swedish is the first foreign language with English, but it is not usual to learn another language, while in Singapore, English is the first language because people are not coming only from China but also from Malaysia and from India. So it is easier to speak English. Chinese is the second language and there is usually no other language taught. [...]
[...] Sungkyunkwan University Overview This university was built in 1398 in Seoul, South Korea. It is the oldest university in East Asia and has other strategic advantages: the well- qualified professors from leading universities such as Berkeley, various field trips in and around Seoul to discover the Korean culture, the geographical situation in Seoul with its modern and ancient parts together. So we, students who went there, can be proud. In 2008, the university decided to start a four weeks international summer semester in order to give the opportunity to foreign students to share its high educational level. [...]
[...] That's why we went out looking for a cheaper and more Korean restaurant. We crossed the avenue and we went to a small street without tourists so that we discovered a small typical restaurant with “adjumas” who only spoke Korean. They were so welcoming and friendly and the food so good that this restaurant became our favourite one in Seoul. If you go to Pusan, don't miss the biggest mall of Asia 300.000 Shinsegae which houses lots of international fashion and luxury brands such as Cartier, but also less expensive clothes, a supermarket, lots of restaurants, a spa, cinemas and even golf! [...]
[...] My group and I have chosen the lack of resources in East Asia. We focused on the energy resources in China, Japan and Korea. The way to grade the groups was new for me. Indeed, as we were very numerous, each groups belonged to one of 4 bigger groups. Each bigger group presented on one day and all the groups voted for their favorite one, day by day. So that the 4 best groups of these 4 days presented again on the last day to be the best group of the class. [...]
