Brazil - China - social and economic issues - global events
Just like giant-emerging-economy China has hosted the Olympic games years ago, the fact that two of the most-wached world events on the planet are going to take place in Brazil in the 5 coming years clearly proves that the country is taking off, and finally has its place in the global stage. It is now a country that the world is taking serious, the whole point is not to disappoint the world.
These types of events are an amazing chance for Brazil since it will generate activity thus investments, money, and people from all over the world. But also a giant challenge, as unlike developped countries, Brazil will need to cope with many issues inherent to its emerging-country-status: social and economic issues will have to be dealt with in order to succeed in the mission it has to host two great global sports events. Furthemore, like any other country, Brazil has its very own culture, that we can put in perspective to think if it won't cause some difficulties in the organization of the global events."
[...] Investing so much money on Football is not worth as the infrastructures won't be useful in the future. Is it really useful to invest some money in a stadium in the middle of the Amazon? Brasil counts 30 million of poor people million of analphabets million of drug addict murders a year, and people dying of car crashes every year. The money would more be worth spending on hospitals, or schools, whether than a 30 day event (and maybe most of the money would come from corruption) Cultural specificities Talking about the country's proper culture, we can also question the ability of the Brazilians to organize events effectively and on time. [...] Considering the history of Brazil and the significant increase in the international community in the recent years (with major international events to be hosted in the country eg World Cup and Olympics), which aspects of the socio-economic and cultural Brazilian cause most concern? “Just like giant-emerging-economy China has hosted the Olympic games years ago, the fact that two of the most-wached world events on the planet are going to take place in Brazil in the 5 coming years clearly proves that the country is taking off, and finally has its place in the global stage. [...] Another question Brazil will be confronted to is the lack of infrastructure and lack of order in the city to host such events. As it is a developing country, it will be less easy for Brazil than an European country, for example, to have the infrastructures in adequacy with the needs. This will, however, give a great opportunity for Rio to invest and to modernize some strategic places. Many Brazilian people are against this competition as for them, Brazil is still a poor country that needs to deal with problems of poverty, and bad education. [...]
[...] Economical and social issues. The most crucial question Brazil is already confronted to is the issue of inequalties which are the biggest in the world, and specially in Rio, where favelas and cities are really geographically close. The amount of foreign people these events will attract has to be considered with caution, in particular since Rio is already known to be very dangerous for tourists in normal occasions. The government has already started to take serious military measures in order to secure favelas in Rio and end drug and arms traffic, which already resulted in a dangerous security crisis, practically an urban war, between the criminals, drug dealers, the police and the army. [...]
[...] We can for example just think of all the foreign people that will be coming from all over the world in the same period of time The country has to take serious organizational measures in order to gain time and prevent killing opportunities due to too much bureaucracy. To conclude, the country needs to be more flexible and better organized in all senses in order to successfully host the two most important events in a global scale. These events are a proof of brazil's emergence from most of the developing country, and should be seen as an amazing chance and good reason for the country to start taking measures to solution its social and economical issues.
