[...] Integration Into a New Country and Adaptation to the English Language Written Comprehension Mamacita's mother tongue is Spanish. It is probable that she comes from Latin America and lives in the United States as a housewife. Her main problem is she never leaves her apartment. Mamacita does not speak English, except very few words (l. 10, "she only knows eight words of English") and does not want her son to speak it either (l. 27 "No speak English!") Mamacita and her husband do not have the same concept of home : he considers home the place where he lives, that is, the United States, and wants to integrate there, while she longs for her place of origin, where she used to live before. But integrating means being part of the country, not staying aside. Without a job, which requires a certain command of the language, without being able to participate in the nation's politics, which demands to hold the citizenship, there is virtually no chance to integrate, let alone if you are reluctant to learn the language...
