Hereafter I'm going to analyse the notion of the idea of progress. I would like to start my presentation with a definition: I believe progress is anything that brings a positive change in society. We can think about several types of progress, on the one hand we have technological progress thanks to which human life is simplified; and, on the other hand, social progress as a result of which society becomes more inclusive or progressive and its members reach a higher standard of living.

[...] I believe that both characters in the documents analysed fought for progress in their own way, be it by leading or by defying stereotypes. They both are heroes, Dr. King being a role model for the whole world, and Katherine Goble being a symbol of the thousands of ordinary heroes who defied discrimination through hard work. Both of them brought about progress that led to the betterment of living standards for millions of people, as well as inspiring millions more to fight to change the societies they live in. [...]
[...] Martin Luther King is a worldwide symbol of social progress. Throughout his life, he fought for the end of discrimination, and for the recognition that all people deserve the same rights. Through his famous speech, he wanted to share his dream with all the colored people of America, a dream that social justice will one day be achieved: have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character".
