I'm going to talk about the notion idea of progress. First, progress can be defined as a forward movement, a development which is considered benefic or a gradual betterment. It is a technical, scientific or social advance which contributes to make the world a better place.
We can ask ourselves if the immigrant's situation in the US has made any progress, especially since Trump's election and his immigration policy, which consists of arresting all illegal migrants at the border. And when adults are accompanied by children, they are separated from them.
[...] In fact, Bruce said in the song: ‘They still die now.' For him, the American people should recognize their work and honor their memory and legacy instead of rejecting them, as every American is the descendant of an immigrant. Yet, the American government doesn't welcome them thankfully. And it is denounced by many people with a conscience like the cartoonist Matson. II. A cartoon drawn by Matson - Statue of Zero Tolerance In fact, in his cartoon, he criticizes how Trump's government (from 2017 to now) is treating immigrants. We can see the Statue of Liberty whose head has been replaced by Trump's head. He looks angry, face closed. [...]
[...] We can also read under the statue: “Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore," which is opposed to Trump's “zero tolerance” policy. Indeed, the creation of a border police prevent immigrants from coming to the US instead of welcoming them. The crying baby represents the case of immigrant children, separated from their parents by the border policy and kept in detention camps. Matson denounces the inhuman nature of this policy, which violates basic human rights by not protecting children and treating them like garbage. [...]

A Trump's anti-immigration reporting from Al Jazeera The last document I chose support that vision. In the reporting from Al Jazeera, we can see that Trump's anti-immigration policy is the subject of much criticism in the US. Activists are protesting in the streets and demanding the reunification of families being separated by the border policy. [...]

[...] To conclude, I would like to say that I am convinced immigrants can work for the development of every country if they are treated properly and if we give them a chance to prove themselves. In the past, we saw that immigrant people have given themselves for the US, why now treat them as garbage? To me, Trump's policy is unfair and inhumane; it is not progress but a human, political and social regression. I am a child of African immigrants and I know that my parents have done everything to succeed in France and get a better life. They have not been rejected. I wish every migrant could have their chance. [...]
