This report was created as part of the graduation project for obtaining the diploma of computer engineer. This project is situated in the context of new generation transport protocols composed of a set of conquerable micro-protocols, to better suit distributed applications dynamic requirements over the internet. Therefore, this project consists in evaluating a framework for transport micro-protocols adaptation de ned within the European NetQos project called the APA (Automated Policy Adapter). The goal of the APA performances evaluation is to determine the framework scalability within the variation of the number of Qos requests to handle.
[...] 2007/ PROJECT CONTEXT ENSI at run-time under sets of imposed constraints and goals. The new approach gives more exibility to users and applications to dynamically change their Quality of service (QoS) requirements while maintaining a smooth delivery of the required QoS. Management of communication systems refers to the task of conguring, administering and optimizing the network resources. QoS management refers to the activities in QoS specication, negotiation, monitoring and control of network resources to meet end-to- end users, applications requirements, and business objectives and resources availability. [...]
[...] In summary, the proposed architecture follows a hierarchical model for the composition of services related to QOS control mechanisms and an event based model for QOS management mechanisms. Thus ETP oers a new approach, not only conceptual but also in term of utilization due to its dynamic composable and congurable services. Indeed its aim is to provide to the protocol user's a set of mechanisms which can activate or deactivate when needed, oering the basic skeleton for transport mechanisms permitting the construction of the simplest one UDP to the most complex TCP considering specic application needs A.U. [...] General thematic of APA axis is based on communication cooperative quality of service, including security guarantee considering context dynamicity of the user ( mobile and cooperative) and the network (variable enhanced resources). Many functions are treated: Heterogeneity versus service continuity and quality. Context evolution 4 A.U. 2007/2008 CHAPTER 1. LABORATORY PRESENTATION Network metrology Cooperation handle Mobility handle on network and application layer. ENSI Scientic objectives associated to this thematic and functions are mainly: The comprehension and the modelisation of future technologies based on wireless and ad hoc networks. [...]
[...] The enforcement policies thus generated by the framework are translated into network device dependent rules to congure the network. This policy architecture requires dierent modules to handle policy evolution context from the highest level to the lowest one, gure 2.4 shows these modules. Figure 2.4 : NETQOS system model 10 A.U. 2007/2008 CHAPTER 2. PROJECT CHART ENSI 2. Policy Description and renement: This module called Actor preference Manager (APM) provides NETQOS GUI allowing users to dene actor-level dynamic policies to the NETQOS system. [...]
[...] It's the major goal of the NETQOS project to follow such dynamism by using new approaches based on the self adaptability in order to obey user's requirements. This document is a report of the graduation project structured into ve major chapters: In chapter 1 the presentation of the laboratory LAAS where the project is done. Chapter 2 species project chart. Chapter 3 introduces the NETQOS framework and analyze the APA (the subject study component of the NETQOS framework). Chapter 4 oers the APA evaluation test bed. [...]
