The movie by Alfred Hitchcock was adapted by a novel to Dafné du Maurier. The story took place in Cornwall in the 1930'. At the beginning of the plot the narrator, a women (we never know her name), dreamed.

After the visit to the doctor, Colonel Julyan understood that Rebecca had provoked Maxim but she committed suicide because she had a cancer. During this time, Mr. Favell blackmailed Mr. De Winter but Mr. De Winter made a statement and Mr. Favell was arrested. When Maxim gave back Manderly she discovered Mrs. Danvers avenged Rebecca and set a place on fire. [...]

When she was in The French Riviera, she saved a man, Maxim de Winter, who wanted to commit suicide. The day after, she met him in a hostel but she was the companion to a rich American lady, Mrs. [...]
[...] She created a scandal and when she left the hall, Mrs. Danvers persuaded her to commit suicide but someone sent a distress signal. All the people went to the beach and the diver told them that when he broke a porthole in another shipwreck he found the Rebecca's skeleton. Mrs. De winter listened to Maxim De Winter listened to Maxim's confession: Rebecca wasn't dead when she was going to sail. In fact, she was dead in front of Maxim accidently and Maxim hid the corpse in a boat. [...]
