Reengineering is, according to them, the only hope to restore the competitiveness of companies.
Reengineering becomes a necessity for companies. Indeed, what the division of labour made, Reengineering has to undo it.
Today, organizations based on the division, the specialization, the hierarchy and the control; do not meet anymore the requirements of their environment. The world in which companies evolve changes. The advanced technologies, the opening of the borders, the new expectations of the consumers make obsolete some principles and way of organization of the classic company. To face the competition, the managers and the leaders have to use new techniques and go through a radical reinvention of the way they work.
[...] They wonder. They should rather wonder how to use the technologies to succeed in making things which they are not already doing? Contrary to the automation, Reengineering is something about innovation. it consists in exploiting the most recent possibilities of the technologies to reach objectives which are totally new. The true power of the technologies is not to improve the old processes, but it's to allow the organizations to break the old rules and to create new way of working, that is to say to re-configure. General practitioners equipped with integrated systems can make the work of many specialists. It has deep consequences on the way the work can be organized. Thus there are many way to miss his Reengineering, but the organizations which will have understood these errors will have all the chances to succeed. [...]
