For the purpose of this assignment, our group was asked to carry out a fundraising event for a charity of our choice. This assignment was set to us, so we could get into the habit of generating our own ideas, running an event, and also to writing a paper reflecting upon our experiences. The first thing which our group had to decide on was what Charity we would try and raise money in aid of. The Charity which we choose to try to raise money for was Cancer research as they deal with the research into the cure of cancer and because in some way everyone in our group had known someone who had suffered or died because of cancer. During this written report I will aim to reveal a few things. I will first provide information on the profile of the Charity as this will help understand see why this is such a worthy cause. Then I will explain how the idea evolved from being nothing to becoming a big Table Quiz and raffle. After this is all done I will explain the highs and lows of this event as well as my experiences and opinions of organizing and running a fundraising event.

[...] The Event As I said everything had been organized down to a tee all the preparation for the event which we had to do on the day was set up the room and pray as many people as possible turned up. Our group arrived at the hall an hour before the event was a meant to take place so everything could be arranged and our plan of action to be agreed upon. The event was to start at 8.30 and by this time we had enough for 27 teams to compete which at 40 euro a table was not a bad turn out. [...]
[...] Since our fundraising idea was going to be a table quiz we knew that it was mainly an older target market as young people don't generally go to these events as they feel it's not really a night out which they would generally enjoy. Also in regards to our target market which we have chosen we decided that it would be this group that would have the most money to spend as well as have a bigger interest in the Charity as you are more likely to contract cancer at an older age. [...] The next thing I learned was to better my communication skills. No class lecture could give you the experience this project has given me in regards to bettering my communication skills. Recommendations My recommendations for anyone who has to do this project would be get started early and leave as much time as possible to get the project done. The reason I would recommend this is simple. During the course of this assignment you will encounter as many obstacles which will need time to sort and giving yourself as much time as possible will help you overcome them. [...]
[...] This was done simply enough as with one phone call and three days later we had received the letter of certification which was our go ahead for the event to be organized. As I had stated our initial idea was to have a table quiz but through the support we were getting in relation to our event we seen there was possibilities to generate more money than the money we would have made from the table quiz alone. Our group decided that it may be worth while trying to organize a raffle as well as with this being held on the same night we would come up against no logistical challenges and it would blend easily into the night and if all went to plan would add little expense to our budget.
