E-business permits a new form of business that allows clients to get information and make purchases through the Internet. It is also considered as one of the major advantages that a company can have over its competitors today. During the seminar, we analyzed different cases with different companies, and saw how the entry of the Internet in business has increased brand recognition.
In this assignment, I will take the example of three companies, and I will study how the Internet tool helped them to improve their business development.
The Warner music Group specializes in the music business, and was founded in 1930. It is now an international company divided into three strategic business units: recording, licensing and publishing. The first record of the group was launched in 1958 and the group is now well developed: it has many different labels such as The Atlantic Group, Atlantic Classics, Atlantic Jazz, Atlantic Nashville, Atlantic Theater, Big Beat, and many others. The group is an international one, and is established in 50 countries thanks to its 37 affiliates and licenses. With respect to the organization, we note that the strategic business units are divided in two categories: Publishing (Warner/Chappell Music) and others.
[...] For Ryanair it is also very profitable. For example the passenger can print his boarding card at home and directly come at the boarding place without going to the registration if he travels without luggage. If it is not the case, he can also pay for a weight of luggage on- line at a less expensive price than at the airport. The partnerships When a client goes to Ryanair website he can see many offers of services procured by partnerships. [...]
[...] We can also distinguish two others way of doing business by the Internet; it concerns more the management of companies: - The e-sourcing: limited with the choice of suppliers - The e-procurement: the signing of the orders within the framework of contracts current (e-supply). Warner Music group is a good example of company which uses e-business. We will see that is a good value added for the company but also be dangerous if bad exploited. In a general way, e-business is a good way to conduct business and manage evolutions and competition. A perfect example of e-business in the Warner Music group is the partnership with amazon.com. [...] But the real e-business work is done with the creation of an interface called mytupperware.com. This interface goal was to reduce paper files and to increase the distribution of products used by sales force” for sales and marketing information as well as to access orders entry information in on central repository. The interface was the first portal created by Tupperware. In fact, the portal was created in order to give a web interface to each sales women or men all around the world, and to increase the rapidity of each files segment. [...]
[...] The price announced in the Internet is not necessary the real price because the passenger also has to pay airport taxes and additional services. The client can be confused because it is not well explained on the website. Moreover, airports of departure or arrival are often little airports which can be 100 km far from the big cities (like Beauvais which is the Ryanair's airport for Paris, or Stanted for London). This important detail represents a loss of time for the passengers and also an additional cost of transport in order to go in the city. [...]
[...] Supply Chain management Ryanair succeed because of its low prices and has a good logistic organisation. This organisation is easy and profitable: the client books his ticket via Internet; then the buying confirmation is sent by e-mail; to finish the client just has to bring the paper for the registration. This way of management permits to reduce costs because: - the on-line sales allows not to have an important sale force - there is no need to print and to send the tickets - All the information arrives at the same place directly so it's easier to manage the company (plane rate of booking, pricing This Supply Chain Management allows the company to work in “just-in-time management”, the company is quicker and can answer in real time to problems.
