[...] What the European Commission blames Microsoft isn't its leadership in the networks world but the situation of monopoly it tries to impose in Europe, by locking its customers more than developing fidelity from them. That's second reason : the pursuits of the European Commission are made to clean up this sector from the bad practices. The consequence of the convictions should be a reduction of the market share of Microsoft, according to the European competition commissioner. He hopes a renewed competition, benefiting to the states and to the consumers. Through this presentation of the motivations of the European Commission, we see the concept of protection of the liberties of the European consumers. [...]
[...] It is understandable to guarantee the best protection of the European people. It is regrettable that a company, certainly little cooperative, made expenses of the European Commission's will. On the other hand, it lets hear to companies in the wrong that the European Commission goes at the end of its threats. But there is a risk that it harms the European economy, because the regulators of the other economic zones will be more flexible in reaction to this behavior. Companies are going to have the choice: adopt an exemplary behavior in compliance with the strictest rules, or conform only for Europe and take advantage of the over-liberal character of the other regulators. It's a reason for whom the regulator has to oversee its behavior. It can be attractive to Microsoft to lock the market in its profit. Indeed, Microsoft has based its economy on operating systems called windows, and on some products suits as Office. For few years, Microsoft has been trialed by the European Commission, for anti-competitive practices. [...]
[...] It's often that a judicial and political organ investigates about a great American firm only towards its economic power. So can we approve that quotation? We'll see that Microsoft is trying to defend its economic model, coming from the USA, and to defend its reputation. On the contrary, the European Union is trying to impose its view of society, and to protect the consumers and the computer science industry in Europe against Microsoft. I More than money : an outlook of society A Restoring a loyal, transparent competition in a bipolar sector As the processor world is dominated by Intel and AMD, the software world is manifestly controlled by Apple and Microsoft. [...]
[...] Even if the firm has already injected million of dollars in their products, the European Commission doesn't care. The regulator has not to decide only towards the economic consequences. The European Commission intends to protect the consumers, their freedom of choice It wants to let the economic market play on the pure basis of the liberal laws. Customers blame Microsoft of imposing its softwares without any choice, but we can reply that it can be useful to buy products which are ready to use, and which don't need to be completed by surfing and downloading on the Internet.
