We decided to focus on Brazil to observe damages caused by corruption. Regarding the gigantic scandal of the oil company Petrobras we decided to ask ourselves "Does corruption rules Brazilian Government?" by observing previous facts of the scandal, various consequences and what is planned for the future.
[...] A deep desire to fight against corruption Manifestations Since the reveal of Petrobras's scandal, a lot of Brazilian felt concerned and wanted to manifest on the street. Some of them manifested to defend the operation "Lava Jato" the name of the judicial operation. There were other manifestations to fight against the destitution of the President Dilma Rousseff. Brazilians were wearing green and yellow clothes to represent their country, as symbol of pride. The Brazilian people didn't stop their fight and protest, when the government tried to stop the anti-corruption measures they went to the streets again to make themselves heard. [...]
[...] Conclusion Finally, can we say that corruption leads Brazilian's Government? Regarding all our elements it is easy to say that the country was completely devastated by corruption, leaving the country in a deep gloomy climate, where people do not believe in their political institutions anymore. When we observe the importance of the Petrobras case, when we see how involved political personalities were, how big the network was and how long the case took to be kind of solved, yes, we can that that corruption led the country. [...] On October 7th Brazilians had voted for their new president. The former president Lula who is still very popular despite his incarceration for corruption and who wanted to be candidate for this election was declared ineligible. The candidate (extreme right) Jair Bolsonaro who was deputy for 27 years is for now at the top of all the polls. He is 13 points before his opponent from the Workers Party, Fernando Haddad who replaced Lula. Jair Bolsonaro was never accused of any facts of corruption which can explain his results. [...]
[...] A deep and long fight between Temer and Brazilian's Justice will begin, nevertheless Michel Temer he will avoid destitution for the good of the country. Economical Since the reveal of the Petrobras's case in 2014 we can observe that the general economic climate is not favorable, and the Brazilian's consumption level and investments level stays very low the GDP of the country was 26.000 billion of dollars and which is only 2000 billions in 2017. Moreover the unemployment rate was 6.7% and now is about 13%. [...]
[...] Consequences: Political One of the main consequence of the Petrobras's case was the destitution of the former President Dilma Rousseff. Indeed, she was not clearly accused by the Brazilian's justice of being part of the "corruption process" but her political party (Worker's party) was indeed accused of corruption by the justice. So she was indirectly concerned by the case. Moreover, she was accused of protecting former President Lula who was her mentor. We cannot say that this scandal directly leads to her destitution, but it was a trigger. [...]
