Facebook is a social networking Web site created by Mark Zuckerberg and designed to bring people close. Since September 2010, it has brought together more than 500 million members across the globe. It is the second most visited site in the world according to Alexa Internet (from google.com). Facebook was born in Harvard: it was originally a closed social network of students of that university before becoming available to other American universities. Since September 2006 the site was open to all.
With over 500 million members, Facebook has become the must social networking platform. It is a real paradise for brands who could use it to promote their products via the fan pages. The brand doesn't have to be a multinational to have its Facebook page. Their creation is free and even SMEs can communicate on Facebook.
Facebook is one of the largest social network of the World Wide Web, with MySpace and LinkedIn among others. Originally intended exclusively for American students, now Facebook's popularity is increasing with many users across the globe. Does Facebook provide a platform to any business?
