The Port Fluvial was created on the 20th of April 1935 but it really started to be active after the Second World War in 1947. If at the beginning, the Port Fluvial was far away form the city, today Lille is surrounding the harbor. In just a few years the harbor became an important logistic tool and entered in the top 5 as one of the most important harbors in France. Over the years, this little service firm became a big complex of platforms draining traffics from the whole world. The original assignment of the Port Fluvial was to create a place of transfer of goods, from the water to the road, or to the railroad. Nowadays, it has platforms draining traffic in the whole world. As intended, the Port Fluvial would like to have the control of all the harbors in the North region. Indeed, with the new laws about decentralization, Port Fluvial would have the power to control all the harbors in the region. Finally, to spread its activity even more, Port Fluvial is planning on openning a new terminal, situated ion the outskirts of Lille. This new terminal should considerably reduce the time of transport according to Jean Berlain, communications director of Port Fluvial. The reason why we chose Port Fluvial is because the harbour, is one of the biggest 'harbour-in-town' in France.

Furthermore, with its large population of 4.05 million inhabitants (in 2006) the region has an important consummation responsibility and a powerful gathering of industrial and commercial structures. As an example, Auchan has its main structures here, in Englos is located the biggest Kinepolis and biggest bowling of Europe . [...]

[...] The company has many projects for the future such has enlarging its business park to 1000 more hectares in the next ten years in order to attract more companies, and spread out further than the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region. The heads of the company actually seem to be rather confident on these projects and can be considering the importance their company is getting III. [...] It regulates the values, makes sure of the respect of the procedures, pays attention to the extensions that can be enforced in terms of the declarations, follows the depot from begining to end and the advancement of the construction . In fact all these actions require time and attention that Port de Lille is happy to provide to its customers in order to avoid any mistakes. Port de Lille also plays the role of an operator that manages its own traffics, its own labor and its own ressources. This particularity helps him getting closer to the companies with which it shares the same worry of top performance and the same demand of business competition. [...]

[...] Indeed Port de Lille has also a role of designing harbour sites, putting to rent many activity premises or business premises such as fields, offices, workshops, or warehouses . As an example of a secondary function of the firm we point out that many restaurant that import food from other countries also have to get through the company to receive their imports. Port de Lille plays a role of customs for them. The owner of a Lebanese restaurant in Lille said he had to go to a specific department of the firm to make the declaration of its merchandise incoming when he has Libanese product delivered here.
