What is the role and purpose of the EU budget? The EU budget is dictated by the European Parliament. For the year 2009 the EU budget was133.8 billion. The members states want to create a more democratic, efficient, effective and responsible public administration in the Community. The main role and purpose of the EU budget is the redistribution of wealth between the Member States. [...] There are several reasons why the EU budget may be considered to be unfair or inappropriate. Firstly it does not reflect the wishes and desire of the Europeans citizens who want and hope for many changes in the EU budget. A survey was carried out to investigate the opinion of the 1 citizens regarding the EU budget. The results of the survey should that these citizens wanted an increase from 24 percent to 38 percent of the EU budget to be spent on economic growth, and an increase from 12 to 36 percent of the EU budget should be spent between employment and social affairs.
