Human resource - cross-cultural challenges - cultural differences - risks
In the actual worldwide environment, project led by international teams are often seen. The managers and members of these teams must be able to work together and share knowledge's efficiently. Realize an experiment on the subject by mixing different people with a common goal is thus an interesting studied.
Situation:
A group of managers sent to Africa to work for a foundation. They come from different horizons (country, sector...) and must launch projects together in a little while.
General Human resources issues:
-Doing business in a multicultural team leads to deal with cross-cultural challenges. Prior to working together, factors such as differences in etiquette, business practices and protocol must be considered. It's also important to try to define common processes, respectful of cultural specificities.
-People respond differently to cultural differences. Some people ignore them and hope they will go away; believing that to focus on the differences will just make the problem worse off. But most of the time they fail to manage cultural specificities and risk experiencing culture shock.
-In this particular case, the team members really want to collaborate but they're confronted to their limits in accepting each other and reaching common decisions.
