I've joined, for this first year of sandwich course in Polytech'Lyon, the Direction of Information Systems and Telecommunications (DSI-T) of the SNCF, and more specifically the entity named E7. The E7 entity (Transversal Process and Expertise Services) is transversal to the Etudes entity.
Its role is to accompany and assist the projects by providing various services such as expertise with code audits, assistance in the design of application architectures and technology watch. It notably propose a project starter kit called StarterKit. The StarterKit is a project starter kit providing for projects a work basis to implement quickly and effectively the development of their applications. This development environment allows them to work on a common and uniform software architecture.
[...] This allows anyone to search for documents interesting him. Formal meetings of the entire section are scheduled every two months. They permit to debate about all of the problems encountered in the section, and to keep abreast about what task each person is working on. There is also a Microsoft Excel file common to all of the section in which each employee list his general tasks on which he works or goes to work. These tasks are classified by priority order. [...]

[...] We also set informal meetings, at each beginning and end of period in the company, for an update on the work done by the team during my absence and define the tasks on which I will work. At the end of a period, we look at the progress of the tasks that were assigned to me and define the key points to the next period in the company. All of these tasks are listed in a file that we share. [...]
[...] It allows everyone to write encyclopedic pages to share the work in progress, future recommendations, but also on realised studies, experiences feedbacks or trainees work. In addition to this encyclopedia, our section has its own wiki, to share more technical information on all the current work in each sector. There is on this Wiki a page about the project I'm working on, where you can see the context of the mission, the current status of the project and the future tasks. [...]

We work in a field where technologies are rapidly changing. It's therefore necessary that the solutions which we offer always follow the evolution of these technologies. The problem of the StarterKit is that it work with outdated technologies, and was no longer actually used by project teams. It was therefore necessary to update technologies used by this StarterKit.
